Somebody wrote one about me once some years ago but it’s been lost for a while now. Nobody else got to hear it and he took it when he left.
Excuse me, sir, I couldn’t help but hear you singing and I was drawn to your smooth strong voice
And the genuine way you tell stories and make people seem alive in your songs
Your music is beautiful and well, I’d really like it if you’d please write a song about me
Is this an odd request? I know your music is a bit more country than I typically lean into
But you have a classic way about you, sir, and I’m not likely to write a good one about myself all by myself
My intention is good and I’m not as self preoccupied as I seem here, I don’t want to fade into nothing is what it is
Maybe you could make me real in the way that only a song can do?
I can’t tell you if I’m pretty because some say yes others no, and how would I know?
My hair is dark, but I’ve worn it blonde before and for this song I’ll let you choose if you want
I’m a fiesty one, there’s no getting around that, and you could say spitfire but that’s overused
You can play it on a guitar or a banjo or a fiddle or a piano it doesn’t much matter
But if someone’s going to write about me I’d like for that someone to be you
You’ve got range and feeling and an honesty that I appreciate
You can make it fast or slow
You can make me wonderful or trouble or you can make me just be
I know that being in a song is one of the best ways to be real
And that’s why I’m asking
Will you please write a song about me
