Thank You Client for Being You, and Other Lies

It’s good to be me and I should be myself. My mental health counselor will accept me as I am.

He will never use anything I share with him to hurt me.

I’m safe to bring uncomfortable and awkward issues to him. We can even have a therapeutic ruptures and he’ll handle it well. I won’t be the only one of the two of us who has actually studied the subject and is interested in applying the research.

My counselor won’t let his emotions cloud his judgment or prevent him from doing what’s best for me.

He won’t abandon me at Christmastime like my abusive ex husband did.

He won’t threaten to sue me because he wants me to shut up no matter what.

He won’t talk about me to other people and let them weigh in on my personal therapy.

He won’t stonewall or gaslight me.

Thank goodness my therapist has my best interests in mind.

I’m so happy that I’m safe to be myself as his client.
